Linsey-woolsey hand woven Quilt

Linsey-woolsey hand-made and woven Quilt.  Circa 1860.  Ontario.  Variable star pattern.  All hand woven fabric of linen and wool -  a coarse twill or plain-woven fabric woven with a linen warp and a woollen weft.  The front pattern fabric as well as the back are homespun linen and wool.  This quilt was made to provide warmth for the pioneer family in a utilitarian Country of needs.  There are minor rips or tears but does not effect the overall beauty of this unique heritage quilt.  61" x 80".  A piece of provenance was added that states the quilt was donated by Audrey Smale and Quilted by Elizabeth Marr.  Was believed to have surfaced from the Chatham area of Ontario.
