In 1760 France the Oberkampf factory was established. Until this period, printed fabric was done with wooden blocks. Oberkampf was the first company to bring copperplate printing to France. The pastoral scenes depicted on toile de Jouy told a story and included many major events of the time period. The scenes were done in a single colour on a white or off-white background. These scenes were printed on cotton and linen fabrics.
Toile fabrics and quilts have always been highly sought after with designers and collectors of fabric throughout its' history to present day times. A beautiful study of quality in design and colour.
