Mennonite Hired-hands quilt

Sweet hired-hands quilt from the Western Ontario Mennonite Community.  Circa 1910.  Wool materials pieced on front in utilitarian fashion and cotton whole cloth on back.  This quilt is in perfect condition.  A nice hanging quilt.  66" x 80"

The deep dark blacks, blues and greens placed in bars to the left and right of a single centre bar of red and rust fabric creates a subtle visual impact.  I am inclined to stress again how unusual it is to find a quilt that was made for regular, daily use in such good condition.  Maybe it had a special meaning for the quilter.  A nice find.
